The Eagle sports department, in cooperation with area soccer coaches, has selected the 13th Butler Eagle Soccer All-Stars.

The selections were based on these criteria: offensive production, defensive effort and overall importance and value to the team. Though in some instances it was a black-and-white decision, many borderline selections were decided by coaches recommendations.

• <B>School: </B>Mars• <B>Class: </B>Junior• <B>Position: </B>Goalkeeper• <B>Statistics: </B>Totaled 11 shutouts, including three in the playoffs, for the Planets, who reached the PIAA Class AA title match. He also started for Mars as a sophomore in 2006.• <B>Coach’s Comments: </B>“He kept us in every playoff game, playing his best down the stretch.” — Mars coach Chris Knauff<BR><BR><BR><BR>

• <B>School: </B>Karns City• <B>Class: </B>Senior• <B>Position: </B>Midfielder• <B>Statistics: </B>Played the entire season with a separated right shoulder and still managed eight goals for the Gremlins, who won the District 9 Class A title.• <B>Coach’s Comments: </B>“Because of the injury, he had to assume more of a leadership role as opposed to being a big scorer.” — Karns City coach Roy Parker<BR><BR><BR><BR>

• <B>School: </B>Mars• <B>Class: </B>Sophomore• <B>Position: </B>Defender• <B>Statistics: </B>Was the best defender for the state runner-ups. Added two goals and three assists. Scored in the 2-1 win over Susquehannock in the PIAA semifinals.• <B>Coach’s Comments: </B>“He controlled the back and added a physical presence for us.” — Mars coach Chris Knauff<BR><BR><BR><BR>

• <B>School: </B>Karns City• <B>Class: </B>Junior• <B>Position: </B>Midfielder/Forward• <B>Statistics: </B>Led the KSAC with 29 goals and had 17 assists.• <B>Coach’s Comments: </B>“Aaron controlled the flow for us and was our go-to guy. He consistently scored the first goal in games to allow the defense to do its job.” — Karns City coach Roy Parker<BR><BR><BR><BR>

• <B>School: </B>Mars• <B>Class: </B>Sophomore• <B>Position: </B>Forward• <B>Statistics: </B>Led Mars with 17 goals and had six assists, helping the Planets reach the state title match.• <B>Coach’s Comments: </B>“He works incredibly hard as a forward. I knew he would make a big jump this season, but he’s exceeded everyone’s expectations.” — Mars coach Chris Knauff<BR><BR><BR><BR>

• <B>School: </B>Slippery Rock• <B>Class: </B>Junior• <B>Position: </B>Striker• <B>Statistics: </B>Scored 29 goals and added 14 assists for the Rockets, who made the playoffs.• <B>Coach’s Comments: </B>“He was just as happy getting assists this season as he was scoring goals, which made him more dangerous.” — Slippery Rock coach Anthony Buzard
