2007 BUTLER EAGLE GIRLS SOCCER ALL-STARS

The Eagle sports department, in cooperation with area soccer coaches, has selected the 13th Butler Eagle Soccer All-Stars.

The selections were based on these criteria: offensive production, defensive effort and overall importance and value to the team. Though in some instances it was a black-and-white decision, many borderline selections were decided by coaches recommendations.

• School: Mars• Class: Senior• Position: Center-Midfielder• Statistics: The Section 7-AAA all-star tallied eight goals and 12 assists for the Planets.• Coach’s Comments: “She was our team MVP and the most consistent player on the field for any team. She’s well-rounded and consistent straight across the board.” — Mars coach Blair Gerlach

• School: Slippery Rock• Class: Sophomore• Position: Goalkeeper• Statistics: Recorded 137 saves and added two assists for the D-10 semifinalist Rockets.• Coach’s Comments: “Practice or game, muddy or in the goal box ... she makes dives, makes saves and she’s only a 10th grader. I only expect her to get better.” — Slippery Rock coach Les Smith

• School: Freeport• Class: Junior• Position: Forward• Statistics: Registered 32 goals and 21 assists. Was voted to all-section, WPIAL and state teams.• Coach’s Comments: “Kayla was a tremendous goal scorer this year. She’s a technical finisher and possesses so much technical ability. All in all, she’s a super player.” — Freeport coach Sean Glackin

• School: Seneca Valley• Class: Junior• Position: Forward• Statistics: Recorded a team-high 19 goals for the WPIAL Class AAA champion Raiders.• Coach’s Comments: “Technically, Karisa is so good with the ball. She’s able to move the ball and finish. She allowed our team to do a lot of things.” — Seneca Valley coach Dave Sylvester

• School: Knoch• Class: Senior• Position: Center-Midfielder• Statistics: The Section 7-AAA all-star had eight goals and 11 assists for the playoff-bound Knights. Was an Elite 11 H-M as a sophomore.• Coach’s Comments: “Alex really controlled the middle of the field. She’s very strong and very quick.” — Knoch coach Amy Travis

• School: Seneca Valley• Class: Sophomore• Position: Forward• Statistics: Was the WPIAL champion Raiders’ second-leading scorer with 14 goals.• Coach’s Comments: “Kate Kelly is so fast that defenses have to respect her speed. The way she plays, it spreads the defense out.” — Seneca Valley coach Dave Sylvester

• School: Karns City• Class: Senior• Position: Forward• Statistics: Rung up a team-high 31 goals and added 14 assists. Was the KSAC MVP this season and Elite 11 pick last year.• Coach’s Comments: “Her athletic ability is tremendous and she’s very recognized around the league. Her work ethic and attitude will be missed.” — Karns City coach Lisa Castiglione

• School: Slippery Rock• Class: Junior• Position: Forward• Statistics: Led the playoff-bound Rockets with 26 goals and chipped in six assists. Was an Elite 11 honorable mention choice last year.• Coach’s Comments: “Elissa’s a great competitor and a leader on and off the field. Her speed was a big asset. She added to my style of play.” — Slippery Rock coach Les Smith
