Tom from North Carolina asks why I would want to expand the number of mind altering substances that are legal. I support complete legalization of all drugs (with penalties for driving while under the influence, furnishing to minors, etc) because, fundamentally, a government founded on the principle of individual rights has no business dictating what one does to their own body. Moreover, the criminalization of drugs has done nothing but force the trade underground and into the hands of organized crime. My support for legalization of drugs is not an endorsement for their use, as I believe the majority of drug use is ill-conceived and self-destructive (but people should be free to make that choice for themselves).
