Monday — Police charged Michael Toubakaris, 31, of Butler with numerous traffic offenses stemming from a hit-and-run crash about 1:25 a.m. Saturday in Meridian.Apolice report said Toubakaris was driving a 2007 Grand Jeep Cherokee that crashed head-on into a 20-by-24-foot garage while turning from Highland Avenue onto Hopewell Avenue. The crash damaged the garage and a vehicle inside.Toubakaris and a passenger, whom authorities did not identify, fled the scene, leaving the Jeep behind, police said.Hopewell Avenue, meanwhile, had to be closed for about three hours during which Meridian volunteer firefighters moved in equipment to shore up the garage as they helped pull out the damaged Jeep.Investigators later that morning, about nine hours after the crash, tracked down Toubakaris at Butler Memorial Hospital, where he had gone for treatment of minor injuries suffered in the wreck.Toubakaris is charged with accidents involving damage to unattended property, failure to immediately notify police of an accident, driving too fast for conditions, abandoning a vehicle on private property, careless driving and making an illegal turn.

Monday — Police charged Mercedez McIntyre, 19, of Slippery with retail theft for allegedly shoplifting $188 in jewelry Saturday afternoon from the JCPenney store at the Clearview Mall in Center Township.5:10 p.m. Sunday — Acar driven by Ruth Pippin, 19, of Cranberry Township crashed into a guardrail on Interstate 79 in Jackson Township.4:49 p.m. Sunday — Pickup trucks driven by Vance Pierce, 22, of Springdale, Allegheny County, and Matthew Cornman, 47, of Kittanning collided on Route 422 at the Interstate 79 off-ramp in Muddy Creek Township.3:30 a.m. Saturday — Atruck driven by James M. Tasker, 20, of Allegheny Township ended up in a pond while traveling on property owned by Parker Sand and Gravel Inc., Division Road in Parker Township.Tasker, who was not injured, safely got out of his truck. Police said that Tasker, the following day, notified company officials that his truck was submerged in the pond.

2:20 p.m. Sunday — James Crawford, 29, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after a trooper noticed him pushing his car on Route 268 near the Hilltop Plaza in East Franklin Township, Armstrong County.

11:15 a.m. Sunday — AButler County man is accused of stealing a 37-inch television from the Wal-Mart store in Union Township.Police said they later arrested Robert Eugene Grim Sr., 53, of Butler Township at his Whitestown Avenue home, where they also found the $847 television.Grim was arraigned on a charge of felony retail theft. Additionally, the defendant was wanted on a warrant for an unrelated case of theft by deception. Grim is being held in the Lawrence County Jail on $15,000 bond.
