KARNS CITY — From 2000 through 2003, Brockway vs. Karns City meant everything — or at least the District 9 Class AA title.

The Gremlins defeated the Rovers in those first two meetings, then the Rovers answered with a pair of championship wins themselves.

Now, the winner of Friday's semifinal game at Karns City will return to the district final with the chance at another crown.

The Rovers, however, enter the game on a three-game losing streak, having been outscored 128-27 in that span, including a 52-12 loss to Keystone in the regular-season finale.

In the only game of mutual opponents, the Gremlins defeated the Panthers 42-14.

The Rovers (5-5) will depend on a balanced offensive attack, led by senior running backs Dillon Park and Camdon Makay.

Park (5-feet-6, 140 pounds) has carried 120 times for a team-leading 789 yards and eight touchdowns while Makay (5-10, 180) has rushed for 662 yards on 149 carries and five touchdowns.

Armando Fortunato (30-90) has accounted for the Rovers' other four rushing scores.

"Dillon is a smaller back but has a lot of speed," said Brockway coach Frank Varischetti Jr. "He does a good job reading blocks. Camdon is a good north-south runner who can run over you.

"It's a good 1-2 punch. We like to mix it up,"Varischetti added.

"Dillon Park has good technique," said Karns City coach Ed Conto. "He's fast and knows how to run the ball. And their quarterback (Matt Pentz) is an excellent thrower. He knows how to execute."

The senior has completed 58 of 114 passes for 1,109 yards, 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

Park also leads the team in receptions (15) and yards (338) and has scored three touchdowns. Pentz's other top targets are Ben Kuhar (12-275-4), Mark Shannon (10-223-1), Fortunato (10-108-2) and Makay (7-130-3).

"Matt's done a great job," said Varischetti. "Five of those interceptions were in one game (against Elk County Catholic), so the numbers are a little slanted. He's only the second quarterback in school history to throw for 1,000 yards."

The Rovers have been outscored 304-225 in their 10 games; the Gremlins (10-0) have outscored their opponents 403-76. They scored 207 points in their last four games.

"They have one of the best tight ends I've ever seen (in Cameron Turner) and their quarterback (Anthony Stimac) has thrown for more than 1,000 yards.

"And, they have three or four different running backs to go to. It's a very balanced team,"Varischetti added.

Stimac has completed 58 of 123 passes for 1,204 yards, 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Turner is the team's top receiver with 18 catches for 374 yards and five scores while Stephon Conto (11-198-2) and Josh Callender (10-238-3) have also contributed.

Matt McConnell, Mike McConnell and Cody Williams have combined for 14 receptions, but have nine touchdowns among them.

Brett Green leads the ground game with 537 yards on 57 carries and seven touchdowns. Marcus Lavan (384 yards, four TD), Josh Stimac (348 yards, four TD) and Anthony Stimac (298 yards, seven TD) help to bolster the running attack.

Despite all the big numbers, Conto knows his team is still developing.

"We've played solid defense," said Conto. "Offensively, are we there yet? No, but we're getting there. Anthony is getting better and all the running backs can get better. They don't get as many carries.

"We haven't peaked yet, which is good," he added.
