The Grove City volleyball team gave WPIAL champion Hopewell all it could handle, but the Vikings came away with a 3-2 victory in PIAA Class AA first-round action Tuesday at North Allegheny High School.

Grove City, the District 10 runner-up, won the first game 25-19 and the third game 25-20, but the Vikings won the second game 27-25 and knotted the match again in the fourth game 25-20.

In the fifth and final game, Hopewell won 15-6 to advance to the state quarterfinals.
