Richard Eugene 'Dick' Wiser
Richard Eugene "Dick" Wiser, 83, of Colerain Street, Sligo, died at 3:15 p.m. Wed-nesday at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Born Feb. 22, 1924, in Sligo, he was the son of William Homer and Martha Hackbarth Wiser.
He attended the Sligo schools.
During World War II, Mr. Wiser was a seaman in the tanker service with the Merchant Marines in the Pacific Theater of operations.
Mr. Wiser retired in 1978 from Owens Illinois in Clarion where he was a shift foreman in the selecting department.
He was a member of the Sligo United Methodist Church, the National Rifle Association, the North American Hunting Association, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Chicora, and the American Legion Post in Rimersburg.
He first was married March 31, 1944, in the Rimersburg United Methodist Church to Jean Louise Seybert, who preceded him in death Nov. 9, 1994. He then married Betty Jane Johnston Hartle Feb. 22, 1997, in the Sligo United Methodist Church, and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons and their wives, Richard E. and E. Lucille Wiser of Elyria, Ohio, and Ronald P. and Shari L. Wiser of Sligo; two daughters and their husbands, Gloria J. and Arthur John "AJ" Deitz of Sligo and Pauline J. "Polly" and Larry R. Keefer of Parker; two stepchildren and their spouses, Carl J. and Ann Hartle of North Washington and Mary Ellen and Ricky Hawk of Fenelton; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and 13 step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Terry 'Butch" Wiser of Sligo and Kenneth Ray Wiser and his wife, Sandy, of New Bethlehem; one sister, Mrs. Kay Heeter of Callensburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Wiser was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Jessica Wiser July 29, 2006; and four brothers, Merle E. "Bud", Jack, Carl "Curt" and Robert Wiser.
<B>WISER</B> — Friends of Richard Eugene "Dick" Wiser, who died on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the <B>Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home</B> in Rimersburg. Visitation also will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday in the Sligo United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the church with the Rev. Richard C. Russell and the Rev. Leonard E. Goughler, pastor of the New Athens Church of God of Prophecy, officiating.
