CHERRY TWP — When Sharon coach Bob Fromm saw Moniteau on tape, he saw a team that resembled his Tigers.

Unfortunately for the Warriors, that's where the similarities ended.

In Friday's nonconference matchup, the Tigers used a combination of a stronger offense, a tougher defense and stellar special teams in rolling to a 49-20 victory.

The loss was the Warriors' fourth straight entering next weekend's District 9 Class AA playoffs.

"The league we play in runs the wing-T and power football," said Fromm. "We're the only exception to the rule, and when we saw (Moniteau) on film, it was unique to see a team like us."

Sharon quarterback Todd Rearick completed 12 of 15 passes for 160 yards and three touchdowns while teammate Bill Altman rushed for a touchdown, threw a touchdown pass and returned an interception for another score. Mike Tomko caught scoring passes from both players.

Moniteau (5-5) was without the services of Tyler Armagost for the first quarter and Josh Loos for the entire game because of unspecified reasons.

"We beat ourselves again," said Moniteau coach Jeff Campbell. "We shot ourselves in the foot: the special teams, the interception return, blown coverages on passes."

The teams exchanged touchdowns in the first quarter — Jaques Moss caught a 36-yard touchdown pass from Rearick and Moniteau's James Shope scored from a yard out — but the Tigers scored on four of their next five possessions to open a 35-6 advantage shortly before halftime.

The biggest blow came right after Shope's touchdown run when Sharon's Ron Howard took the ensuing kickoff 86 yards to make it a 14-6 game.

Moniteau did score just before halftime when Armagost directed a five-play, 69-yard drive, capped by an 11-yard pass to Clayton Casper.

The drive was aided by a pair of unsportsmanlike conduct penalties by Sharon, which finished the game with nine penalties for 107 yards.

Moniteau attempted an onside kick to open the second half, but Sharon recovered. Three plays later, Altman connected with Mike Tomko on a 41-yard pass play to make it 42-12.

The Warriors answered with a score of their own, thanks to a key return by Dakota Campbell that helped set the Warriors up at the Sharon 38.

Six plays later, Armagost teamed up with Campbell on a 4-yard scoring pass and Armagost added the conversion run.

Sharon (7-3) closed out the scoring on its next possession with a 13-yard pass from Rearick to Tomko with 2:30 left in the third quarter.

"We played a lot of the game with younger players," said Campbell. "Our corner and safety (Shope and Victor Santoyo) were sophomores, and at one point we had five sophomores on the field.

"We're playing for the future. We're kind of limping in here. We're playing for the playoffs. We have a talented team. We all have to show up and play."

Notes: Armagost completed six of 11 passes for 33 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in three quarters. Shope quarterbacked the first quarter. ... Moniteau ran the ball 51 times for 216 yards ... Tomko led all receivers with six catches for 92 yards ... Moniteau turned the ball over on downs three times in the second quarter.
