KARNS CITY — If Friday night is any indication, the Karns City High football team will make a deep run in the playoffs.

The Gremlins dominated nonconference foe Forest Hills 48-6.

Karns City was paced by quarterback Anthony Stimac, who was 9 of 11 passing for 166 yards and three scores.

"Anthony has just been getting better," said Karns City coach Ed Conto. "He is turning into a really good quarterback."

Stimac's favorite target was tight end Cameron Turner, who hauled in five passes for 95 yards and two touchdowns.

Things did not start well for the Gremlins on their first possession. Stephon Conto caught an 8-yard pass from Stimac on KC's third play from scrimmage, but he fumbled and Tyler Rosenberger pounced on the ball at the Rangers 42.

However, Forest Hills could not move the ball and was forced to punt.

After both teams traded punts on the next two possessions, Karns City put together a drive that took it to the Forest Hills 5.

From there, Josh Stimac took a pitch from Anthony Stimac and raced around right end for a touchdown.

A key play on the Gremlins' scoring drive was a pass from Anthony Stimac to Turner that covered 40 yards.

Things got worse for Forest Hills on its next possession when Anthony Stimac picked off a Jason Shope pass at the Gremlins 30-yard line.

Two plays later, Anthony Stimac threw a 61-yard scoring strike to a wide-open Matt McConnell, who was speeding down the middle of the field.

Karns City tacked on another score on its first possession of the second quarter when Anthony Stimac ran a quarterback keeper for a 4-yard score.

The key play on the scoring drive was a 50-yard run by Josh Stimac that put the ball at the Forest Hills 5.

The Stimac-to-Turner aerial circus capped the Gremlins' last two drives of the first half as Turner caught touchdown passes of nine and 11 yards.

The Karns City defense matched the offense step for step by holding the Rangers to 39 total yards and three first downs in the first half.

"They were better than us tonight," said Forest Hills coach Don Bailey. "We were decimated by injuries and they are a pretty good football team.

"That's why they're 10-0."

The Gremlins put together a perfect regular season for the first time since 2001.

The lone bright spot for Forest Hills was tailback Jared Kostan, who had 93 yards on 16 carries and also had a 68-yard touchdown run.

"We had to play hard physically against them," said Conto. "They were bigger than us, and we are going to see some teams in the playoffs that are bigger than us."
