RIMERSBURG — One word that describes the Karns City High football team is consistency.

The Gremlins clinched their third straight Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference title by beating Union 57-0 on Friday night.

"These kids did a good job," said Karns City coach Ed Conto. "Three years in a row, I'm proud of them."

Karns City rolled up 372 yards of total offense while holding Union to 15.

The Gremlins used 12 different ball carriers to accumulate 245 yards rushing. Anthony Stimac led the Gremlins air attack by completing six of eight passes for 127 yards and three scores.

Karns City opened the scoring with less than a minute gone in the first quarter when Brett Green plowed into the end zone from the 1.

On the opening drive, the Gremlins moved 67 yards in four plays. Stimac ran for 33 yards on a quarterback keeper on the first play of the game. Two plays later, Green rumbled 29 yards and was pushed out of bounds at the Union 1.

After forcing Union to punt, Cameron Turner hauled in a Stimac pass and ran 47 yards for a touchdown. The score gave the Gremlins a 14-0 advantage with 8:38 left in the first quarter.

Karns City scored again on its next possession when Josh Stimac darted through the Golden Knights defense for a 9-yard score.

The Karns City touchdown express slowed a bit on the next possession when Josh Callender fumbled at the Union 25-yard line after catching a 28-yard pass.

However, Callender redeemed himself on the next play when he picked off a Matt Gagliano pass at the Union 35 and returned it for an apparent touchdown.

Unfortunately, a Gremlins blocker was guilty of an illegal block in the back and the ball was spotted at the Golden Knights 14.

Four plays later, Anthony Stimac threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Cody Williams to give Karns City a 27-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

With 6:24 left until halftime, Stimac threw a 9-yard scoring strike to Turner. The score extended the Gremlins lead to 34-0.

Turner was the Cris Carter of the KSAC, as all he did was catch touchdowns. Turner caught two passes for 56 yards and both were for scores.

With 9:52 left in the game, Matt McConnell drilled a 47-yard field goal, which was the longest in the school's history.

Union, on the other hand, was unable to muster any production offensively.

Zach Traister was the Golden Knights' leading rusher with 20 yards on 11 carries.

Colby Davis, Union's starting tailback, missed the game with an ankle injury.

"We can't compete with that team," said Union coach Tom Kidder. "We just can't."

Union finishes its season next week against Saltsburg, and Karns City gets a playoff tune-up with Forest Hills.
