NEW WILMINGTON — The end is creeping up on Danielle Hogue.

And she's OK with it.

"Part of me is ready for it to be over," said Hogue, a senior hitter on the Westminster College volleyball team. "I'm ready to be a normal person who doesn't have to go to practice every day."

Hogue has been hitting volleyballs over nets for 10 years. She was a star at Slippery Rock High, where she was named to the all-state team as a senior season and where she helped turn the program around.

At Westminster, she had to adapt to several position changes and her team's slow start this season.

While she is ready for the ultimate end of her playing career, Hogue said she'll have mixed feelings.

"I know I'm going to miss it," she said. "Even when we have a day off, I have this feeling I should be doing something."

For now, the 6-footer is planning to enjoy the time she has left, and things are going pretty well for her team after a less-than-stellar start.

Westminster began the season 3-10. But once the Presidents' Athletic Conference schedule kicked in, the Titans have been almost unbeatable.

Westminster has rolled off 11 straight victories and has won 14 of 15 on the way to first place in the conference.

Last year, the Titans finished first in the conference and hosted the PAC tournament, only to lose in the first round.

That's something Hogue said the team is determined it won't let happen again.

"Our first goal from the beginning of the season was to win the conference," Hogue said. "I'm kind of cautions because of what happened last year. It's kind of hard to explain, but I think we all know how every single game means so much."

Hogue is second on the team in kills per game at 3.12 while adjusting to a new position — again.

When Hogue came in as a freshman, she played right outside hitter. Before her sophomore season, she was moved to middle hitter, where she enjoyed two solid seasons.

But this season, Hogue was moved back to right outside hitter.

It took her a while to get re-acclimated to that role, but Hogue is finally feeling comfortable enough there.

"I've been playing volleyball long enough to know what to do," she said.

Hogue, who will graduate in May with a degree in elementary education, said she hasn't ruled out coaching in the future.

"I know I will miss it," Hogue said. "It won't be long before I'll want to get back into it."
