BUTLER TWP— Last chance for victory.

That's what Friday's 7:30 p.m. football game at Seneca Valley comes down to for Butler.

The Golden Tornado (0-8, 0-4) will try to win the Butler Eagle Traveling Trophy for the fifth consecutive season against their county rival. Butler has won the last four meetings by scores of 29-7, 33-15, 47-29 and 14-0.

"We've looked around and called around, but haven't been able to come up with a (crossover) opponent for next week,"Butler coach Jeff McAnallen said. "So this is it."

Butler is facing a Raiders team that has clinched second place in the Northern Five after winning three consecutive section games. Seneca Valley had dropped 26 straight section contests before its current streak.

"This is a meaningful game to our kids,"McAnallen said. "A 10th game on a Thursday night against somebody just wouldn't carry the meaning that this game does."

Junior linebacker Tony Andreassi was named the Butler Quarterback Club Player of the Week after making numerous tackles against North Allegheny a week ago.

Andreassi forced a fumble by NA's Geoff Greco during the Tigers' 34-0 win.

McAnallen pointed to senior defensive end John Scialabba, junior cornerback Mason McLaughlin and junior middle linebacker T.J. Lesniewski as leaders on the field.

"In high school football, I've always believed your leaders come from the defensive side of the ball," the coach said. "Those three guys have played solid, consistent football from week to week."

Offensively, the coaching staff has been putting pieces in place around sophomore quarterback Cole Harvey, who has thrown for 498 yards and six touchdowns while rushing for 228 yards and a score.

Michael Schontz and Eli Christy saw time at receiver last week for Butler.

"With Jared Oesterling out (broken hand), we had to find some different receivers,"McAnallen said. "Tony Fudoli has emerged as our top running back, Mason and Cameron (McDonald-Cahill) as our wingbacks."

Seneca Valley (5-3, 3-1) has had its pieces in place for some time. Quarterback C.J. Brown has thrown for 1,236 yards and 10 touchdowns, rushed for 370 yards and four scores.

James Daniels has rushed for 407 yards and four TDs. The Raiders have three dependable receivers in Matt Plautz (38 catches-511 yards), Aaron Palmeiri (15-183) and Dustin Anewalt (11-184).

"C.J. Brown is the best quarterback in our section,"McAnallen said. "Greco is the best athlete at quarterback, but he's not really a threat to throw the ball.

"Brown can throw and run equally well. He puts a lot of pressure on a defense."

And McAnallen is impressed with Seneca Valley's defense.

"All I know is they tackle well," he said. "The good backs in our league, Ed Reith, Karl DeCiantis — those guys get people on the ground."

Butler has put together long possessions on occasion this year, but not with any kind of consistency. The Tornado have scored only 65 points and have been shut out by North Hills and North Allegheny the past two weeks.

"We've still got a chance to put one together,"McAnallensaid of this game. "We have 20 seniors on this team and only six or seven of them start. But no matter what we've asked them to do, scout team, kick coverage, whatever, they've done it, worked hard and haven't complained.

"I have a lot of respect for those guys."
