Virgie L. Bovard, 100, of Orchard Manor in GroveCity, formerly of Harrisville, died at 11:11 p.m. Thursday at the Grove City Medical Center after a brief illness.

She was born in Irwin Township on June 23, 1907, to J. Gilmore Walters and Ida E. Surrena Walters.

Mrs. Bovard was a custodian at Slippery Rock College and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Forestville United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Bovard was active in her church, played the organ and piano, and taught Sunday school.

She loved her family, liked writing poetry, cooking and crocheting.

She is survived by a son, Thomas Bovard and wife, Barbara, of Forestville; three grandchildren, Laurie Carter and her husband, Nathan, of Vernon Hills, Calif., Paul D. Bovard and his wife, Juli, of Rapid City, S.D., and Lisa R. Fleming and her husband, Michael, of Hawthorn Woods, Ill.; and six great-grandchildren, James, Jessica, Nathan, Eric, Ayden and Jack.

She married James Paul Bovard on Jan. 25, 1934 and he died Nov. 7, 1954. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Walters, and a sister, Hazel Ulrich.

<B>BOVARD</B> — Friends of Virgie L. Bovard, who died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007, will be received from to 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the <B>Cunningham Funeral Home</B>, Grove City. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. David Ealy, her church pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Crestview Memorial Park, Grove City.
