Vegetable, berry session set
Anyone growing vegetables or small fruit for sale should plan to attend the Western Pennsylvania vegetable and berry growers seminar from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Butler Days Inn, Route 8.
This seminar is designed specifically for the commercial vegetable and/or berry growers in the tri-state area. The meeting draws commercial vegetable growers from Western Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia to learn the latest information and products available to help them grow top quality produce profitably.
The vegetable production session will run all day and will emphasize soil management and insect pests of sweet corn and peppers, as well as sprayer calibration and management of sprayer drift.
In the morning, a concurrent berry growers' session will be offered, and during the afternoon a business management session will be available.
Both core and category credits will be available for pesticide applicator licenses in the production sessions. Speakers from Penn State, Ohio State, the Pennsylvania Vegetable Growers Association and successful farm operations will share information on crop production, business management and marketing.
The educational sessions are complemented by a trade show that includes vendors supplying everything from seed to chemicals to fertilizer to farm market supplies for the commercial grower.

Project Grass, a Pennsylvania grazing partnership program, in cooperation with the Beaver County Conservation District, will offer an equine grazing seminar beginning at 8:45 a.m. Nov. 3.The program will be held at the Beaver County Conservation District office, 156 Cowpath Road, Aliquippa.The day will include workshops on topics such as hay quality, digestive physiology of the horse, pasture management, and grazing system design. There will also be discussion on good neighbor relations and current regulations facing horse owners.Program participants will receive a notebook filled with the latest informational bulletins, fact sheets and support materials to help them apply forage management practices at home.Seating is limited and registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration of $25 per person is due by Friday.
