Andrew Gorencic
Andrew L. Gorencic, 87, of Butler died Sunday at his home.
Born in Claytonia, Clay Township, Oct. 9, 1919, he was a son of Louis and Josephine Gorencic.
He retired from the Eagle Printery, where he had been a pressman for more than 25 years.
Mr. Gorencic was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and the Butler Council 866 of the Knights of Columbus.
An avid golfer, he formerly had been a member of the K of C Golf League and the Home Avenue Golf League. He also had been a bowler and enjoyed outdoor sports, hunting and fishing.
During World War II, he was a staff sergeant in the Army Combat Engineers and had been assigned to all three theaters of operations during the war.
Surviving are a son, Jeffrey D. Gorencic of Butler; two daughters, Janice Oberdorf of Vandergrift and Joyce Carlozzi of Willoughby, Ohio; a grandson, Dr. Eric Oberdorf and his wife, Tammy, of Raleigh, N.C.; a great-granddaughter, Savannah Oberdorf; and two sisters, Margaret Traggiai of Cabot and Dorothy Shira of Warren, Ohio. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Gerstner Gorencic, who died April 25, 1986, and a sister, Helen Fischer.
<B>Gorencic </B>—<B> </B>Friends of Andrew L. Gorencic, who died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church. The Rev. Pierre Falkenhan will officiate. Burial will follow at the St. Peter Parish Cemetery.The Women's Council of St. Peter will recite the rosary at 9:40 a.m. Thursday at the church.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St., Butler, PA 16001.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
