William L. Schmiedel
William L. Schmiedel, 87, of Richland Township died Saturday evening at UPMC Passavant Hospital, McCandless Township.
Born in Gibsonia on May 24, 1920, he was the son of Carl and Ethel Chipman Schmiedel.
He was a retired maintenance man for the Park and Knott Block plant in Gibsonia and E.S.M. in Cooperstown.
Mr. Schmiedel was a World War II Army veteran and was a member and past officer of the Gibsonia-Wexford VFW Post 9247.
He enjoyed camping, gardening, and volunteering at the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Kinniburgh of Curtisville and Mrs. Thomas (Barbara) Zenewicz of Gibsonia; two sons, John Schmiedel of Gibsonia and William "Butch" Schmiedel ofRussellton; a sister, Esther Thompson of Hayward, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cora E. Hughes Schmiedel, who died on Oct. 19, 1991, and two brothers, Charles and Ralph Schmiedel.
