Dr. John Calvin Shakley

Dr. John Shakley, 84, of Bruin, a prominent chiropractor, died at 4 a.m. Thursday at Lakewood Manor near Chicora following a period of failing health.

He was born in Butler County on Aug. 4, 1923, and was the son of Clifford Paul and Laura Jane Watterson Shakley.

Mr. Shakley as a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in East Brady.

He graduated from the Palmer Chiropractic School in Indianapolis.

He had a chiropractic office in Sugarcreek Township for many years.

He first married Gertrude Elizabeth McNess, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 7, 1974. He then married Doris Herron, who died Aug. 9, 1997.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah J. Shick, formerly of Bruin and now of Butler; a stepson, Roger L. Bell and his wife, Sue, of Sun City, Ariz.; a sister, Mrs. Jean Grossman of Palm Desert,Calif.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Shakley; five sisters, Helen Kummer, June Conner, Bernice Lewis, Esther King and Bessie Mortimer.

<B>Shakley</B> — Friends of John Calvin Shakley, who died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, will be received from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, East Brady. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Peter E. Sears officiating.Privateburial will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Sugarcreek Township.Arrangements are being handled by the <B>Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home</B> in Petrolia.
