PROSPECT — The Prospect Area Preservation Society will present guest speaker Ned Stokes and his slide presentation on the War of 1812 from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Moraine Elementary School.

Admission is free and refreshments will be served.

Volunteers needed for Coats of Love

The Coats of Love Ministries coat giveaway will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 20 at the Island Playground.

Coats for men, women and children will be available. Donations of children's coats are still needed and can be taken to the playground from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Oct. 20.

SLIPPERY ROCK — The annual Empty Bowls lunch and dinner sponsored by Slippery Rock University's Institute for Community, Service-Learning and Nonprofit Leadership will be from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Monday in the University Union.The event will raise money for the Feed My Sheep Food Cupboard in Slippery Rock, the Butler County Area Agency on Aging and I Care House food programs.Participants will receive their soup in a bowl made by university students and artists.Tickets are available at the door or by calling 724-738-2273.

SAXONBURG — The Saxonburg Area Library will host story times from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and 1 to 1:30 p.m. Thursdays for children ages 3 to 5.Registration set for upcoming pageantApplicants are now being accepted for the 2008 Miss Butler County USA pageant to be held Dec. 2 at the Kean Theatre in Gibsonia.The pageant is open to unmarried women ages 17 to 26 as of Feb. 1.
