Jessica Kemp's letter to the editor
Nurse Jessica Kemp's letter to the editor draws attention to the delay in voting the state House of Representatives has enacted for the bill that would broaden the availability of emergency contraception for victims of sexual assault. It is an ominous sign that legislators beholden to the zealots of the Religious Right are so cruel that their desire to impose their morality on others extends even to victims of sexual assault. Unfortunately, my state representative Daryl Metcalfe is not exempted from this criticism. While I am very much against government involvement in healthcare, I believe that to not offer emergency contraception to victims of sexual assault is malpractice. Opposition to this bill is chiefly religiously based and is, therefore, not valid in governmental decision making.
