CHERRY TWP— Going to the Karns City-Moniteau football game?

Buy a program — and pay close attention.

Between the two teams, 12 running backs and nine receivers have scored touchdowns this season.

Moniteau (5-1) hosts Karns City (6-0) for a 7 p.m. kickoff with the winner sitting alone atop the Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference standings.

"There won't be many secrets in this game,"Moniteau coach Jeff Campbell said. "We'll have a few wrinkles for them and I'm sure they'll have a few wrinkles for us.

"But, basically, we know what they're gonna try to do and they know what we're all about."

What's difficult to decipher is who is going to be doing what — particularly with the Gremlins.

No Karns City running back has more than 42 carries this season. By contrast, James Shope has rushed 83 times for the Warriors.

Eight Karns City running backs have found the end zone. Brett Green has scored four touchdowns, Markus LaVan and quarterback Anthony Stimac have three each, and Josh Stimac and Stephon Conto have two each on the ground.

"That's why it's so hard to prepare for them because there's no one to focus on,"Campbell said. "Getting ready for Keystone, we knew what (Derek)Swartfager liked to do, what receiver Mike Switzer's tendencies were.

"With Karns City, you don't know who's coming from where. You prepare for schemes, not players."

While the Warriors will play their 35 defense and do a lot of blitzing, the Gremlins will play their 52 defense.

While Shope leads the Moniteau ground game with 731 yards, nine touchdowns and an 8.7 yards-per-carry average, fellow back Dakota Campbell also averages 8.7 yards and Clayton Drnek has recently returned to the lineup.

"We haven't used Clay much yet, but he's a powerful back. ... James is obviously a speed back,"Campbell said.

On defense, the Warriors get nose guard Beau Eshenbaugh back for the first time since the St. Marys game.

"We're getting healthy at the right time,"Campbell said, as fellow KSACcontenders KCand Redbank Valley loom on the schedule.

This will be Campbell's first Karns City-Moniteau game as a head coach. He may not have been in that position if not for Gremlins head coach Ed Conto.

"He wrote a letter of support for me that helped me get this job,"Campbell said. "That meant a lot to me because I respect that man so much as a coach."

When Campbell and his coaches looked at films of the St. Marys-Karns City and Keystone-Karns City games, the coach insisted he only paid attention to the team the Warriors were playing that week.

"We paid no attention to what Karns City was doing in those games then,"Campbell said. "It's one week at a time for us."

The Gremlins lead the all-time series between the schools 34-17-3 and have won 12 of the last 14 meetings. Moniteau's last win over KCwas 10-7 in the 2005 District 9 playoffs.

Campbell said mistakes will play a big factor Friday night.

"When you're facing a quality opponent, you can't make mistakes,"he said. "We told (quarterback)Tyler (Armagost) that we can't throw interceptions. If it's not there, throw the ball away. We won't be taking chances.

"Their kids play very disciplined football. We have to match that."
