BC3 nets volleyball victory
Butler High grad Sam Karns had seven kills as the Butler County Community College women's volleyball team downed Greater Allegheny 30-8, 30-7, 30-8 Saturday.
Chrystal Kemery added 14 digs and Amber Wiant six aces for the Pioneers (8-6).
Cross Country
Patrick Reagan placed first with a time of 25 minutes, 29.5 seconds as the Slippery Rock University men's cross country team won the SRU Cross Country Invitational Saturday.
Jeff Weiss was second with a time of 25:59.8 and Seneca Valley High School graduate Chris Geddis placed fourth with a 27:07.5 mark.
The Rock women placed second, led by Katie Bork's second-place time of 23:19.
Slippery Rock High School graduate Leslie Kramer finished 10th with a time of 24:44.
Sisters Kayla and Samantha Blackburn teamed up to finish second in doubles competition for SRU at the PSAC Individual Tennis Championships at Shippensburg University Sunday.The Blackburns were the top seed in the tournament, but fell to the California (Pa.) University tandem of Santoro and Alekseeva.
The Grove City College football team scored three touchdowns in a span of 5 minutes, 19 seconds in the second half on the way to a 36-15 home win over Bethany College Saturday afternoon.Sophomore quarterback Andrew DiDonato began the scoring splurge with a 13-yard run. Two plays later, junior safety Zach Fulmer intercepted Bethany quarterback Milton Joyner and returned it to the Bethany 18 to set up a 1-yard scoring run by Ian Tobin.The Wolverines scored the final touchdown when Mike Baker recovered a muffed punt in the end zone.DiDonato finished 13-of-21 for 190 yards. He also rushed for 77 yards on 16 carries.Grove City gained 206 yards on the ground.
