Slippery Rock man was killed in crash
SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — A Slippery Rock man was killed and a Butler woman seriously injured Sunday night when a pickup truck struck their motorcycle on Route 173, state police said.
Robert J. Jackson, 42, who was driving the 1982 Harley Davidson, died after being trapped underneath the 2003 Toyota Tundra, in the 7:20 p.m. crash in front of a pizza shop.
Butler County Deputy Coroner Larry Barr pronounced Jackson dead at the scene at 9:40 p.m.
Barr said an autopsy was planned today on Jackson, who suffered head and chest injuries.
Carol Hines, no age given, a passenger on the cycle, was flown by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. Hines was listed in stable condition, a hospital spokeswoman said this morning.
Police said neither Jackson nor Hines was wearing a helmet.
The pickup driver, Monica Kushner, 47, of Port Vue, Allegheny County, was not injured.
Police said Kushner was traveling north on Route 173 and turned left into Fox's Pizza when the truck hit the motorcycle, which was traveling south.
Kushner was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital to have blood drawn, the police report said, to determine if alcohol could have been a factor in the crash. Authorities said the investigation continues.
Slippery Rock Township firefighters and ambulance volunteers assisted police at the crash site.
