Richard E. Pyewell

Richard E. "Rick" Pyewell, 58, of Center Township, recently a resident of the Evergreen Nursing Home in Harmony, died early Thursday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Nov. 25, 1948, in Reading, he was a son of the late Charles and Mary Malone Pyewell.

He graduated from Reading High School in 1966 and from Lafayette College in 1976 with an electrical engineering degree. He was a dedicated employee for the Armco/AK Steel plant in Butler from 1976 until 2002, where he was the automation manager for the melt shop.

Mr. Pyewell was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Center Township since 1976, served on the church council and was in charge of the Youth Ministry Committee for years.

He had coached youth T-ball, softball and soccer, was a referee for the B.A.S.A. and was a member of the Armco Bowling League, which met at the Knights of Columbus on Monday nights, for years. He also was a member of the Armco Golf League, where he was a record keeper and organized tournaments.

He was an avid runner, participated in many local races, was an original member of the Perpetual Motion Running Group at Butler County Community College and was well known for his good sense of humor. In the late 1970s, he was on the Transitional Living Board.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, he had served with the Navy on the U.S.S. Charleston, an attack cargo ship.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara M. Godek Pyewell, whom he married Sept. 23, 1972; a daughter, Mrs. Joshua (Allison Rose) Nichols of Glenshaw; a son, Daniel Richard Pyewell of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Seth Richard and Sydney Rose Nichols; two brothers, John Pyewell and family of Illinois and Robert Pyewell and family of Florida; and three brothers-in-law, Joseph (Susie), David (Cathy Jo) and Matthew (Denise) Godek, all of the Reading area; and an aunt, Effie Johnson of Philadelphia.

Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and many caring friends especially, Bob, Suzi, Mike and Fef, Jae, George and Margy, Kathy and Mike and Pat and Tom.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Marie Godek of Reading.

<B>PYEWELL </B>— Friends of Richard E. 'Rick' Pyewell, who died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007, will be received from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. Visitation also will be held from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 120 Sunset Drive, where services will follow at 11 a.m. The Rev.
