Butler County's great daily newspaper

Rachel

I am glad you posted! I have been reading these posts about teachers pay, and find it just ridiculous. If anyone is asking No I am not a teacher. I am a manager at a local fast food resturant. I might have to work on holidays, work year round, not have snow delays, or snow days, and I don't have the best pay in the world. Only I know when I come home I am done for the day.

What I am getting at is that I am grateful to teachers like you. Ones that take the time to care about their students. My son's teacher even gave us her home phone number so that way if I have a problem I can call her at home. She realizes that all parents aren't home during school hours. That is a dedicated teacher. She's not getting paid for a parent to bother her at home. She's doing it out of loyalty to her job, and her students. I also have two girls that are in school, and they have very dedicated teachers also. No I don't have their home numbers, but they make sure that I know what is going on in that classroom. They handed out their emails, and the best time to call the school so they could talk to me if I needed to. They schedule parent-teacher confrences after school, and later in the evening. So instead of them being home with their families they are at school talking to parents. They are doing what they love, and that's great!

I have no complaints with their pay. If anything I feel teachers need to be paid more. They don't have 9-5 jobs. They have all day jobs. Taking care of our kids! (No not babysitting, but giving them an education) I know for me personally that if the teacher is having a problem with my child I want a phone call. My child will be disaplined at home. That's my responsibility. Thankfully they are not old enough to have cell phones, but if I got a call to say come get you kid's phone. I wouldn't be mad at the teacher. It would be my kid that I would be mad at. What are kids doing in school with cell phones anyways? I thought that school was for learning!

Anyways I know I am going to be bashed over this post, because I believe teachers do deserve more money. Only everyone else stated their opinions, and I have stated mine.

So thanks again for a post I can agree with.

PS Don't forget in the summer you need to start your lesson plans for the following year also.

I know a friend of mine does, and she teaches head start.

PPS yes I pay taxes too!
