William L. McFarland, 70, of Hadley in Sandy Creek Township, Mercer County, died unexpectedly at 6:33 a.m. Sunday at the UPMC-Horizon, Greenville Campus.

Born in Allison Park, June 12, 1937, he was a son of Oscar and Mary Matilda Hughes Thomas.

He was a jack-of-all-trades and most recently had been a truck driver and had worked with horses.

Mr. McFarland enjoyed playing his guitar, had a love of horses and was an avid fisherman.

Surviving are his wife, the former Arlene Rupert, whom he married May 29, 1958; three sons, William R. McFarland of West Sunbury, Ronald R. McFarland of Greenville and James McFarland of Sandy Lake; three sisters, Anna Jean Patrick, Larrian Cohan and Lavina Tuberville, all of New Jersey; and four brothers, Leonard, Ray, Larry and Bobby McFarland, all of Butler. He also is survived by 13 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, six nieces and six nephews.

<B>MCFARLAND </B>— Friends of William L. McFarland, who died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the <B>Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home</B>, 3223 Perry Highway, Sheakleyville. Funeral and committal service will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Darryl Wickes, pastor of the Sheakleyville Nazarene Church, officiating. Burial will follow at the Sheakleyville Cemetery.Condolences may be sent to the family at www.rlsfh.com.
