JACKSON TWP — It's not the way Seneca Valley football coach Ron Butschle wanted to enter what might be his team's stiffest test this year.

After an inspiring defensive performance in a 19-0 win over Kiski Area Sept. 14, the Raiders surrendered 592 rushing yards in a 63-28 loss at Baldwin last week.

It's the most points scored on a Raiders team in the program's 44-year history. The previous record was 55 points.

No team in the WPIAL is playing better football than North Allegheny, SV's next opponent, which is fresh off a 43-19 drubbing of defending state champion Upper St. Clair.

"We're just doing things on a weekly basis," said NA coach Art Walker Jr. "But we haven't done anything as far as the big picture goes, which is the conference games. That all starts this week."

The undefeated Tigers will host the Raiders for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff Friday at Newman Stadium.

"They beat up a pretty good USC team last week," Butschle said. "We just have to move on. We know what we did wrong last week and we told our kids that they just have to rise to the occasion.

"A lot of people will forget about last week if they play well this week. But we need a couple of big stops early."

The Raiders suffered several injuries in last week's loss, most of them minor. But senior linebacker Derek Peluso is out indefinitely with a knee injury.

Tailback James Daniels, who injured his shoulder in the win over Kiski, wideout Matt Plautz and fullback-linebacker Jeff Scanlon are expected to play.

Plautz is the Raiders' leading receiver with 14 catches for 198 yards and two scores.

Though Plautz should be in the lineup, the Raiders will be looking for other wide receivers to make plays downfield.

Leading that group is Aaron Palmieri (13 catches for 161 yards), followed by Dustin Anewalt (6-55).

"We don't have wide receivers who are going to run away from you, nobody with 4.4 speed," said Butschle. "But we do have some good athletes there who have made some plays for us."

NA's Multiple-I offense features two quarterbacks, senior Geoff Greco and junior Mike Locke, who will both see playing time Friday.

Locke threw for two touchdowns last week and ran for another.

Senior running back Karl DeCiantis has rushed for 410 yards, including a 215-yard performance in a Week 2 win against Latrobe.

Senior Curtis Belcastro and junior Brian Austin are the Tigers' leading receivers.

The last thing Walker wants his players doing leading into Friday's game is to look at the lopsided score Baldwin pinned on the Raiders.

"Seneca is a very competitive team," he said. "They shut down a very good Kiski team two weeks ago and we are by no means taking them lightly."

NA won last year's meeting 27-13.
