Rockets halt Meadville's streak

The Slippery Rock boys cross country team grabbed seven of the top 10 places Tuesday to knock off Meadville 28-31, snapping the Bulldogs' 22-meet winning streak.

Meadville took first and second place before Dan Hartzell and Nate King followed behind.

After Meadville took the fifth-place spot, the Rockets (3-0) rounded out the top 10 with five consecutive finishers.

In the girls meet, Meadville prevailed 20-38. Slippery Rock was led by Andrea Shaffer, who was third with a time of 23 minutes, 46 seconds.

The boys junior high team picked up their first win in several years, led by Ryan Thompson's second-place finish. The girls placed second behind winner Jess Bennett.

Butler sophomore Mara Shingleton fired an 85 to take third place at the WPIAL Section 3 Championship Tuesday at Rittswood Golf Club.Mars' Brittany Jones and Seneca Valley's Shannon O'Halloran each fired a 94 to tie for fifth place.All three golfers will be among the field of 36 that will take part in the WPIALChampionships on Oct. 10.
