Cranberry, Evans City men hurt in deadly crash
MARSHALL TWP, Allegheny County — A Cranberry Township man and an Evans City man are recovering in a Pittsburgh hospital following Sunday's two-vehicle accident on Route 19 in which two Mercer County men died.
Shanea Climo, 21, of Evans City and Walter Gasowski, 90, were both in fair condition this morning at Allegheny General Hospital.
Gasowski is in the hospital's intensive care unit.
Climo was the driver of a Cranberry Ambulance vehicle taking Gasowski to UPMC Passavant McCandless for an unspecified ailment when it collided with a car on Route 19 at 2:21 a.m.
A second paramedic who was in the back of the ambulance with Gasowski, William Humes, 27, of Cranberry Township, was treated and released from UPMC Passavant Cranberry.
Northern Regional Police report the ambulance was southbound when a car attempted to make a left turn onto the highway from the Brush Creek Road-Thorn Hill Road intersection, leading to the accident.
Both men in the car, driver Douglas Stitt, 38, of Mercer, and Phillip Bacon, 31, of Sharpsville, were pronounced dead at the scene by a pathologist from the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office.
The cause of death for both men was ruled blunt force trauma to their heads and bodies.
Northern Regional Police Chief Bob Amann said this morning the cause of the accident is still under investigation, including which vehicle had the green light.
"At this time, we're talking to witnesses," he said.
