Sturgeon

Laura Verena Sturgeon, 86, of Country Side Assisted Living in Mercer, formerly of Fom-bell and Porter-sville, died Sunday at the Sharon Regional Hospital following a brief illness.

Born Feb. 18, 1921, in Perry Township, Lawrence County, she was the daughter of George R. and Mary V. Glasgow Nagel.

She was married for 67 years to Arthur W. Sturgeon, who died March 14, 2007.

She was actively involved with the family truck garden, orchard and curb market business for more than 40 years.

Mrs. Sturgeon was a 1938 Lincoln High School graduate and was an active member of the Portersville Presbyterian Church.

She was a generous and loving wife, mother and grandmother who was known as a wonderful cook and baker.

In her later years, she also enjoyed traveling to visit her son in Alaska, her daughter in Oregon and their families.

Surviving are her two sons and their wives, Ronald and Marcella Sturgeon of Anchorage, Alaska, and Tim and Kathy Sturgeon of Fombell; a daughter and her husband, Judy and David Kamperman of Bend, Oregon; eight grandchildren, Judd Sturgeon and Kirstie Ostberg of Alaska, Paige Weatherman, Jason and Rachel Kamperman of Oregon and Thad, Wade and Blane Sturgeon of Fombell; 16 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Edgar Nagel of Florida.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

<B>STURGEON — </B>Friends of Laura Verena Sturgeon, who died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007, will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the <B>marshall funeral home</B>, 200 Fountain Ave., in Ellwood City. Friends also will be received from 10 a.m. Friday at the Portersville Presbyterian Church until the funeral services at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dana Opp officiating.
