Laura Jean Baker
Laura Jean Baker, 90, of Campbell Road, Venango Township, died at 2:45 p.m. Sunday at her home.
Born April 9, 1917, in Venango Township, she was the daughter of William James and Anna Jane Campbell.
She was a 1935 Clintonville High School graduate, and she retired in 1980 after 17½ years of work in the Slippery Rock University cafeteria.
Mrs. Baker was an active member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Nectarine, Venango County, where she loved to work. She also enjoyed traveling and needle work.
Surviving are her stepdaughter, Vera J. Filer and her husband, Lawrence, of Mercer; four stepsons and their wives, Donald H. and Arlene Baker of Branson, Mo., Wallace J. and Ramelle Baker of Memphis, Tenn., Joseph L. and Judy Baker of Volant, and Floyd E. and Patty Baker of Cape Fair, Mo.; 22 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alexander Miller, whom she married in 1942, and who died in 1961; her second husband, Harry L. Baker, whom she married in 1971, and who died in 1996; a stepdaughter, Wilda Alcorn; and a step-great-grandson, Samuel.
<B>BAKER </B>—<B> </B>Friends of Laura Jean Baker, who died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007, will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from noon until the funeral services at 1 p.m. at the <B>smith funeral home, </B>412 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. The Rev. C.J. Talkington, pastor of The Church of God of Prophecy, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Slippery Rock Cemetery.
