NEW KENSINGTON — Freeport simply can't catch a break this season.

The Yellowjackets wasted two 10-point leads Friday as Valley rallied to hand them their third football loss of the campaign, 28-24.

Valley (3-0) scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns to pull out the win.

"(Valley) played well," Freeport head coach Bill Dillen said. "They didn't quit."

With Freeport leading 24-14, Valley quarterback Garrett Sekanick threw a strike to Brad Marzullo for a 10-yard pick up. But Marzullo completed the hook-and-ladder play as he lateraled the ball back to Mike Kuhns. who rumbled 50 yards for the touchdown with 5:31 left in the game.

After a quick three-and-out, Valley got the ball at its own 30-yard line and marched 70 yards in 1:59. Sekanick struck again as he hit Troy Hill on a 17-yard touchdown pass.

"They made two big plays, two catches," Dillen said. "We had guys in coverage, we just didn't make the plays. ... We played better than last week. We moved the ball, scored some touchdowns."

"We are still trying to find out the makeup of our team," Valley head coach Troy Hill said. "We had our backs against the wall. They could have given up, but they didn't."

Freeport's effort to rally were hampered when the scoreboard lost power with 1:47 remaining.

"It's hard when you have to manage your time," Dillen said.

Freeport's final drive started at the Valley 47-yard line, but went backwards with a 5- yard penalty and an 8-yard sack.

Valley outgained Freeport 208 to 90 in the final quarter.

Valley's Anthony Saunders was able to remove any sting the Freeport defense brought in the second half. He had four catches for 135 yards and a touchdown and rushed for another 22 yards and a score.

Freeport did strike first in the second quarter on a 1-yard plunge by Kirk Naedele, who ran for 119 yards on 25 carries. But Freeport's defense gave the points right back 21 seconds later when Sekanick hit Saunders on an 80-yard bomb to knot the score.

Andrew Vidra broke the tie with a 27-yard field goal and Darius Frantz gave the Yellowjackets a 10-point cushion after he scooped up a fumble and ran 30 yards for touchdown. It was his second fumble recovery for a touchdown in as many weeks.
