48-0 win a group effort
FOXBURG— It didn't matter who Moniteau trotted onto the field to run the ball.
The Warriors utilized seven different backs to run for 360 yards and shut out A-C Valley 48-0 Friday night. James Shope led the Warriors' power running game with 150 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries.
Warriors quarterback Tyler Armagost passed only sparingly, but was effective when he did, throwing for 96 yards and 2 TDs on four completions.
"Our offensive line was the key to this win," said Moniteau coach Jeff Campbell. "We needed this to rebound from last week's loss."
A-C Valley opened the game with a successful onside kick — one of the few things that would go its way.
Moniteau crowded nine defenders in the box, consistently penetrating the backfield to disrupt handoffs and attempted passes. Mitch Czech ended the first A-C Valley drive with an interception of Luke Walker's pass on third and 27.
Moniteau wasted no time getting on the board, driving 41 yards in four plays. Shope capped the drive with a 7-yard scoring run. The Warriors scored on their first six possessions, taking a 41-0 halftime lead.
Armagost threw a pair of touchdowns to Josh Loos for 5 and 50 yards. Shope ran for two more scores (54 and 18 yards).
As the score mounted, Moniteau shuffled fresh backs into the game, including Dakota Campbell, who ran 9 yards for a score.
Armagost ended A-C Valley's first second-half drive with his second interception of the game. Three Shope runs for 28 yards and an interference penalty set up Moniteau first-and-goal from the 1-yard line.
However, Armagost's fade pass to Loos in the left corner was intercepted by the Falcons' Walker 8 yards deep in the end zone. He broke several tackles and returned the interception 53 yards.
The closest thing to a complete pass for A-C Valley was dropped and the Falcons had to punt.
Moniteau continued to run the ball with success in the second half, shuffling more backs into the mix. Mitch Czech was its featured back on a fourth quarter first drive. rushing five times for 46 yards and a 10-yard score.
A-C Valley's defense did have it successes in the second half. Two of three Moniteau drives ended with no score. Late in the fourth quarter, A-C Valley stuffed backup quarterback Zach Wheeler's attempt to convert a fourth-and-1.
"The 27 kids on our roster played their hearts out," said A-C Valley coach Gary Pinkerton. "We're still building and improving our football program."
