EDINBORO — Edinboro University plans to build $115 million worth of new student housing and dining facilities, some of which will open by 2009.

The two-phase project includes suite and semi-suite units that will house nearly 1,600 students, and a new $10 million student dining facility.

The new eight-building configuration will replace three dorms — Shafer Hall, Scranton Hall and Lawrence Towers. All three are named after former governors and will be torn down as the new housing becomes available.

Combined with renovations at three other dorms, the project means the university will provide Internet-accessible on-campus housing for about 2,500 students.

The entire project will be finished by 2011.
