CANONSBURG — A Western Pennsylvania presbytery must decide whether to let a congregation leave the Presbyterian Church USA.

The Washington Presbytery, which governs 63 churches in Washington and Greene counties, is faced with the decision now that members of the Peters Creek Presbyterian Church voted 273-86 on Sunday to leave the denomination.

They want to join the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, which they say more closely follows biblical teachings on the Trinity, salvation, and some social issues, including not allowing homosexuals to be ordained.

The presbytery must decide whether the congregation may leave, and whether they can keep their church property if they do.
