Thursday — Numerous cases of food were stolen in a burglary at the Butler Memorial Park concession stand. The break-in apparently occurred between Sunday and Thursday morning.Among the stolen food were six cases of frozen burger patties, five cases of soda, seven cases of chips and pretzels, two cases of hot dogs and three cases of Gatorade.4:37 a.m. Wednesday — A burglar alarm apparently scared off a would-be thief or thieves at the Elks Club on Kaufman Drive.Police quickly answered the alarm and found evidence that someone tried unsuccessfully to enter the building from the rear.Officers, assisted by Butler Township police, state police and the Evans City police K-9 unit, searched the area but found no suspects.Wednesday — Richard Edward Scott, 30, of Butler was charged with drunken driving and hit-and-run stemming from a 2:30 a.m. Sunday crash at North Main and North streets.Police said Scott's pickup truck collided at the intersection with a van driven by Timothy Clark, 40, of Butler. The van spun out after the crash and rolled onto its side. Scott drove off after the crash police said.Sarah Coast, 59, of Butler, a passenger in the van suffered minor injuries.Scott is charged with driving under the influence, accidents involving injury, driving with a suspended license and no insurance, reckless driving and a traffic light violation.10:58 a.m. Tuesday — Cars driven by Melissa Davis, 22, of Pittsburgh and Phyllis Saeler, 32, of Summit Township collided at West North and North Jackson streets.
1:24 a.m. today — Chelcie Kelly, 67, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Route 8 near the Days Inn.12:33 p.m. Tuesday — Deana Fair, 36, of Butler allegedly stole about $5 in change from an unlocked vehicle on Linhurst Avenue. Police said Fair is charged with theft from a vehicle, receiving stolen property and public drunkenness.
2:30 a.m. Sept. 1 — Danielle Pierce, 20, of 104 Pierce Lane, Harmony, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and illegally purchasing/consuming/transporting alcoholic beverages when police were called to the area of Wise Road at Mennonite Lane for a vehicle parked in a field near the Mennonite Church.1:58 a.m. Sept. 1 — James Girty, 44, of 301 Ziegler St. Ext., Zelienople, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, restrictions on alcoholic beverages and lighting requirements after police made a traffic stop on Route 19 near Northgate Plaza because the driver's license plate lights weren't functioning. Upon further inspection, police found an open pack of beer in plain view within the vehicle.3:56 p.m. Aug. 30 — Mary Peffer of Zelienople told police she was stopped at the intersection of Route 528 waiting to make a right turn onto Route 19, when the driver of a vehicle behind her began honking his horn. Upon turning onto Route 19, that car began to tailgate her vehicle and dangerously passed her vehicle causing her to take evasive action, which resulted in her losing control of her vehicle, spinning and crashing on Route 19. No injuries were reported and moderate damage was reported to the vehicle. Police are still looking for identify of the driver of the other vehicle.10:35 p.m. Aug. 30 — Paul Joseph Henkel, 48, of 305 Timberlake Court, Zelienople, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, operating a vehicle with a suspended license, driving with no insurance, disregard of traffic lane, restrictions on alcoholic beverages and driving with a suspended registration after police pulled him over after witnessing his vehicle weaving on Route 19.10:44 p.m. Aug. 28 — A vehicle driven by Thomas Pasterik, 22, of 143 Youngblood Road, Zelienople, slammed into a utility pole along Youngblood Road. The man was found yards from the vehicle and transported to Allegheny General Hospital by Harmony EMS. Pasterik told police he was talking on his cellular phone, when a deer ran in front of his vehicle causing him to swerve and crash into the pole.6:26 p.m. Aug. 26 — A vehicle driven by James Peffer IV, 18, of Zelienople was traveling on Evergreen Mill Road near Hartmann Road when he swerved to miss a deer and crashed. Neither Peffer nor a passenger in the vehicle was injured.12:02 a.m. Aug. 20 — Matthew Gant Kriley, 21, of 309 Cherokee Drive was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, use/possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, failing to obey duties at a stop sign and driving without a valid inspection after police allegedly witnessed the driver run a stop sign at the intersection of Routes 68 and 528.
10:15 a.m. Thursday — A car driven by Mary Podvasnik, 60, of Slippery Rock crashed over an embankment along Route 8 about one-half mile south of Ralston Road in Slippery Rock Township.Police said Podvasnik was treated for minor injuries at Butler Memorial Hospital; she was cited for following too closely to another vehicle.Thursday — A large floor safe, about $8,500 in currency, two dozen business checks and other accounting items were stolen between 8 p.m. Wednesday and 7:15 a.m. Thursday in a burglary at Kennedy Diversified on Route 8 in Slippery Rock Township.Thursday — Police reported that two Slippery Rock men face charges for throwing large rocks and chunks of blacktop onto Interstate 79 in Worth Township.Travis Taggart, 22, and Kyle Gercken, 21, are accused of throwing the debris about 1:25 a.m. Aug. 26. Some of the rocks and blacktop hit the windshield of a passing vehicle driven by Greg Lander, no age given, of Seneca, Venango County.Police said the suspects also allegedly aimed a laser pointer at Lander and another motorist traveling the highway.1:10 p.m. Wednesday — A 17-year-old boy escaped from Summit Academy in Summit Township and stole a blue, 2005 Chevrolet Astro Van, police said. The van bears the Pennsylvania license plate FWR2979.
