Dillner's score helps Mars edge Knoch

Marci Dillner scored the winning goal midway through the second half to give Mars a wild 4-3 girls soccer win over Knoch Wednesday night.

Kaitlyn Angeletti, Erin Resosky and Lexie Mastro scored three first-half goals for the Planets (1-1-1, 1-0).

That equaled the output of Knoch senior Amanda Sharbaugh, who had a hat trick in the first 40 minutes.

Mars held Sharbaugh and Knoch (0-3, 0-1) scoreless in the final 40 minutes, putting three defenders on the Knights standout.

Freeport 3, Riverview 0 — Courtney Boroski scored two goals for Freeport.The Yellowjackets (2-0) received a goal from Brittany Gaspersic as well. Emily Thompson recorded the shutout in goal.

Pine-Richland 3, Butler 1 — Mackenzie Hohn scored the lone Golden Tornado goal.

Aaron McGarvey recorded two goals and an assist, and Nick LoPresti tallied two goals as Karns City opened the season with a 5-0 win over DuBois Central Catholic Wednesday.Earlier Wednesday, McGarvey placed first in a cross country meet for Karns City.Goalie John Grenninger recorded the shutout.Grove City 3, Commodore Perry 1 — Jordan Nichols scored two goals and Shaun Barr added another as the Eagles opened the season with a win.
