Butler's boys soccer team won the Hempfield Tournament for the third successive year, defeating Gateway 3-0 in the finals over the weekend.

Jake Gamble scored two goals with Ryan Armahizer adding a goal and assist in the championship game. The Golden Tornado defeated Latrobe, 2-0, in the semifinal round.

Jake Huey registered two goals as Butler dispatched Greensburg Central Catholic 3-1 in the first round of the tournament.

Alex Krouse accounted for the other Tornado goal while Ryan Hohn and Matt Craig added assists.

Elsewhere:

• Slippery Rock won the Harbor Creek Tournament over the weekend, defeating Harbor Creek 3-2 on Friday night and bouncing Eisenhower, 5-2, on Saturday.

Ryan Gercken had a goal and assist in Friday's win with Wes Craig and Mike Ramirez also finding the net. Brandon Zarichnak and Brant Sloan added assists.

Ramirez had three goals Saturday, Gercken and Craig getting a goal and assist each. Zarichnak contributed two assists.

The Rockets play at Pine-Richland today.

• At the Chartiers Valley Tournament, Seneca Valley lost to Norwin 3-1 on Friday, but rebounded with a 2-1 triumph over Baldwin on Saturday.

Knoch 6, Kiski Area 2 — Goals by Buddy Carr, Chris Speedlock, Doug Vogus, C.J. Wise, Kevin Wood and Quentin Panger helped a balanced Knights attack at home Saturday.Adam Sharbaugh added an assist and Steve Frey recorded eight assists in net.

Mars 5, Southmoreland 0 — Drew Glavin tallied two goals while Michael Page, Christopher Karns and Dylan McNanny added one apiece to key the Planets' win.Andy Knauff added three assists for Mars, which opens section play today at Freeport.

VolleyballAt the Butler Tournament on Saturday, the host Tornado defeated Avonworth 2-1 in the semifinals, then defeated Council Rock South 2-0 in the championship final.Council Rock South had blanked Kiski Area 2-0 in the other semifinal. Knoch was defeated by Avonworth 2-0 in the quarterfinal round.
