Howard Keith "Monk" Christie, 87, of Hilliards died Wednesday at UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh.

Born Jan. 8, 1920, in Ridg-eville, Montour County, he was the son of Lee and Beatrice Dunlap Christie.

He was a member of the Hilliards United Methodist Church.

During World War II, he served with the Navy on the USS Sanctuary.

Mr. Christie had worked for Michigan Limestone, Annandale, for 15 years and retired from the Ellwood Cityworks of US Steel after 17 years. He then started H.K. Christie Trucking.

He was a life member of the Paul W. Wood VFW Post 7840 and a member of the United Steelworkers of America Local 1220 of Pittsburgh.

Surviving are his wife, Devona R. Stevens Christie, whom he married Aug. 1, 1938; three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Dixie) Jackson of Hooker, Mrs. Bruce (Lana) Toth of Eau Claire, and Mrs. Peter (Jody) Campbell of Hilliards; three sons and their wives, Sherwell and Terry Christie of Parker Howard and Judy Christie of Butler and Richard and Carol Christie of Hooker; 16 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

He also is survived by a sister, Mrs. Gerald (Marilyn) Gould of Slippery Rock; a brother, Robert Christie of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Four grandchildren and two brothers preceded him in death.

<B>CHRISTIE </B>— Friends of Howard Keith "Monk" Christie, who died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the <B>William F. Young Funeral Home</B>, 132 Main St., West Sunbury. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with his church pastor, the Rev. James Lewis, officiating. Burial will be at the Rosewood CemeteryGraveside military honors will be accorded by the Moniteau Ceremonial Squad.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hilliards United Methodist Church.
