John R. Barber Jr., 82, of Pittsburgh Road, Harrisville, a lifetime resident of the area, died at 12:28 p.m. Tuesday at UPMC Northwest, Seneca.

Born June 28, 1925, in Blacktown, Mercer County, he was the son of John R. Sr. and Lois A. Barton Barber.

He served as a machinist in the Navy during World War II.

Mr. Barber was a self-employed welder and mechanic and had owned the Barber Tire Co. He formerly was a truck driver and had been employed at the Coyer Coal Co., the Kerry Coal Co., Sechan Limestone and the Chutz Coal Co.

He was a life member of the Franklin VFW Post. He was a Protestant. He was a collector of die cast tractors and attended steam engine shows.

Surviving are his wife, Betty J. Fix Barber, whom he married April 12, 1955; three sons, Ray Barber Jr. of Vineland, N.J., R. Gordon McNany of North Kingsville, Ohio, and Glenn L. McNany of Salem, Ohio; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and his dog, Daisy Mae.

He was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers.

<B>BARBER </B>— Friends of John R. Barber Jr., who died Tuesday, July 31, 2007, will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the <B>Jamison Funeral Home</B>, 117 N. Main St., Harrisville. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Willard Morse, minister of visitation at Grace United Methodist Church, Grove City, officiating. Burial will be at Findley Cemetery, Findley Township, Mercer County.
