Earl W. Kaufman, 85, of Newhaven Court, Center Township, formerly of Brandon Road, died at 8:50 p.m. Friday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 25, 1921, in Butler, he was the son of Ross Albert Kaufman and Nina Strickenburgh.

He had been a conductor for Conrail for 38 years and retired in 1981.

He was a Protestant and a passionate hunter and fisherman.

Mr. Kaufman was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Mae Yough Kaufman; three sons, Lawrence Kaufman and his wife, Susan, of Beaver, William Kaufman of Freedom and John Kaufman and his wife, Kimberly, of Freedom; three daughters, Mrs. Linda Rachuba of Unionville, Beaver County, Mrs. Edward (Cathy) Spade of Rochester and Joni Piser of Edgewater, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Darlene Lehner of Grove City; and a stepson, Ronald Bowser of Butler.

Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a number of step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorraine Kaufman, who died in 1966; a daughter, Leah; a sister, Emma; two brothers, Buzz and Larry, and a stepgrandson.
