STATE COLLEGE — Two Penn State football players, including starting tight end Andrew Quarless, were issued citations by university police for underage drinking.

Quarless, 18, and reserve cornerback Willie Harriott, 20, were cited early Friday morning by officers responding to a separate incident at a campus apartment building, according to a Penn State police report.

The citations come as the Nittany Lions prepare for their season opener Sept. 1 against Florida International.

Team spokesman Jeff Nelson said Saturday that coach Joe Paterno was aware of the citations, and that the team did not have any comment.

Quarless, a redshirt sophomore, emerged as a pass-catching threat late last season and figures to play a prominent role on the offense. Harriott played sparingly in 2006.
