The Butler Branch of the
American Association of University Women has announced its officers for 2007-08.Newly elected officers include
Mary McGinnis, president;
Jill Roth, finance officer; and
Judith Wadding, membership vice president. They join current officers
Jean Shumway, programming vice president, and
Ellen Garbuny and
Janet Black, secretaries.During the recent state convention, the Butler Branch was recognized for the second consecutive year as a Four Star Branch.
Jill Roth was recognized as Woman of the Year;
Carolyn Shriver, as a new member who significantly contributed to the branch, was designated an Emerging Star; and
Maggie Stock was chosen as a Distinguished AAUW Member.Activities planned for fall include participation in the Butler fall festival, the annual book sale and LunaFest women's film series at Butler County Community College.The opening meeting for the year will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at 311 Country Club Road, Penn Township. Several titles were awarded during the <B>Butler County Kids Pageant</B>, held recently at the Kean Theater in Gibsonia.The title of 2007 Little Miss Butler County was awarded to <B>Haley Scott</B>, 4, daughter of Bob and Tracy Scott of Butler. She was also the winner of the title of Little Miss Photogenic Butler County.<B>Maverick Sutton</B>, 3, son of Kathy Sutton of Karns City, was named 2007 Little Mr. Butler County and 2007 Little Mr. Photogenic Butler County.The title of Young Miss Butler County was awarded to <B>Kourtnie Regan</B>, 11, daughter of Kimberly Regan of Seven Fields and Kevin Regan of Cranberry Township.<B>Kiersta Green</B>, 8, daughter of Yvonne Green of Mars, was named Young Miss Photogenic Butler County.<B>Austin Cehelsky</B>, 11, son of Ronald and Barbara Cehelsky of Butler, was named Young Mr. Butler County and Young Mr. Photogenic Butler County.In the competition for the title of Teen Miss Butler County, <B>Crystal Chilcott</B>, 14, daughter of Donald and Shirley Chilcott of Butler, was named the winner.The title of Teen Miss Photogenic Butler County was awarded to 13-year-old <B>Hope Vitous</B>, daughter of Robert and Christine Pflugh of Butler.The titles of Teen Mr. Butler County and Teen Mr. Photogenic Butler County was awarded to <B>Rusty Miller</B>, 13, son of Greg and Carole Miller of Valencia.Winners received a crown or medallion, banner and trophy. <B>Gerri Hoffman</B> of Geneva, Ohio, formerly of Butler, received the inaugural Premier Volunteer Award from Susan G. Komen for the Cure Northeast Ohio.She received the award for coordinating volunteers at the 2006 race.———
<B>Phil Sleigher</B> of East Butler won a custom built motorcycle from the American Legion Riders of Butler County.More than 1,000 tickets were sold for $25 each since November 2006 to benefit veterans.The bike was built by West Penn Cycle on Hansen Avenue in Lyndora.———
The committee for the 2007 <B>East Brady Area Riverfest</B> has announced winners of its contests and drawings.The award for Citizen of the Year was presented to <B>Barbara Mortimer</B>.In the Miss Riverfest pageant, <B>Clarissa Chilcott </B>of Butler was named Teen Miss.
