Ronnie Sankey of Butler set a state record by leaping 12 feet, four inches in the long jump at the Keystone State Games in Camp Hill recently.

Sankey won the age 40-44 masters division and set the record for that division. She also placed second in the pole vault with a height of seven feet, nine inches.

Her daughter, Skye Sankey, placed third in the pole vault in the 17-18 scholastic division with a height of 10 feet.

Mike Weber, a Cranberry Township native, signed a three-year contract with the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday.Weber, a defenseman, was drafted in the second round last year by the NHL team, which made him the 57th pick overall.Weber had played for the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League.

VERONA — John Aubrey and Stan Namola fired a 32-32-64 to tie for first place at the Ashworth Pro-Scratch Amateur Golf Tournament at Longue Vue Club in Verona Wednesday.Aubrey, the professional at Aubrey's Dubbs Dred and Namola (amateur), tied Steve Antenucci and Shawn Will (amateur) of Longue Vue.Ron Milanovich and Rob Voltz (amateur) of St. Jude Golf Club tied for 18th place (37-33-70).Aubrey also placed third in the low professional event with a 69, two strokes behind Antenucci while Namola was third in the low amateur (69).

Emily Boosahda, a former head lacrosse coach at Tri-State University and Nichols College, has been named assistant field hockey and lacrosse coach at Slippery Rock University.She will serve as the top assistant to second-year field hockey/lacrosse head coach Stacey Hart.

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Former major league All-Star Jose Offerman was suspended indefinitely, a day after he went wild in the minors and hit the opposing pitcher and catcher with his bat.Offerman was charged with two counts of second-degree assault — the catcher sustained a concussion and the pitcher had a broken finger. Offerman posted $10,000 bond.Out of the majors since playing for the New York Mets in 2005, Offerman homered in the first inning Tuesday night for the Long Island Ducks. The next inning, he was hit by a pitch from Bridgeport Bluefish starter Matt Beech and charged the mound with his bat.

CONCORD, N.C. — Dale Earnhardt Jr. will not be taking his familiar No. 8 with him to Hendrick Motorsports next season.Earnhardt is leaving Dale Earnhardt Inc. at the end of the season and had hoped to take No. 8 with him to his new team. His late grandfather, Ralph, used that number and Earnhardt picked it when he entered the Cup Series in 1999.Although teams do not own numbers — they are leased through NASCAR — DEI had the first right of refusal on the No. 8, and Hendrick officials said they were unable to reach an agreement that would have made DEI pass on choosing the number for 2008.
