Verna Vargo of Butler, celebrated her 80th birthday recently with a surprise party given by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at the Clubhouse at Forest Heights.

The former Verna Rihel was born July 29, 1927, in Butler. She married Frank Vargo Jr. He is deceased.

She has a daughter, Edith Landgraf of Ellwood City.

She also has two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Vargo is retired from the A&P Store. She is active with Butler Meals on Wheels, the Tanglewood Center and the Butler Arthritis Support Group.

She is a member of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church.
