PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers re-signed long snapper Jared Retkofsky on Monday, two days after having an extra point blocked by Green Bay in an exhibition game.The 6-foot-5, 260-pound Retkofsky signed with Pittsburgh as an undrafted free agent from TCU during the spring but was released July 19, four days before training camp started.Retkofsky was brought back to challenge long snapper Greg Warren, who was beaten up the middle on the blocked extra point. The Steelers also missed a mid-range field goal attempt when kicker Jeff Reed was pressured Aug. 5 against New Orleans.
RICHMOND, Va. — The two remaining co-defendants in Michael Vick's federal dogfighting case scheduled hearings to enter plea agreements.Purnell Peace, 35, of Virginia Beach, is set to appear in federal court in Richmond on Thursday and Quanis Phillips, 28, of Atlanta, on Friday.Last month, another original co-defendant, Tony Taylor, pleaded guilty to his role in a dogfighting conspiracy he says was financed almost entirely by the Atlanta Falcons quarterback.
LOS ANGELES — The Clippers signed Brevin Knight, a month after the veteran free agent guard was waived by the Charlotte Bobcats.Terms of the deal were not disclosed.Knight averaged 9.1 points, 6.6 assists and 2.7 rebounds for the Bobcats last season, but was limited to 45 games. He had a buyout clause in his contract worth $1.5 million. He was scheduled to make just over $4 million next season.
