PITTSBURGH — The father of freshman quarterback Pat Bostick said his son will return soon to Pitt's preseason football camp.

Bostick left the team Monday to deal with an undisclosed personal issue, coach Dave Wannstedt said. He is the team's top recruit and a likely challenger for a starting job this season. He threw for 7,259 yards during his career at Manheim Township High near Lancaster.

Wannstedt has said no timetable has been set for Bostick's return, but Pat Bostick Sr. said his son could return to the team as early as this weekend, or early next week at the latest.

"I can assure you that this had nothing to do with being homesick or a girlfriend issue or anything like that," the elder Bostick said. "Pat needed some time to get in the right frame of mind and this is an important time for him. Pat was not happy about leaving camp, it is not what he wanted to do, but we all agreed it would be the best thing for him at this point."

Wannstedt said he is encouraged by what he has heard from the family, but is mostly concerned that Bostick is OK.

"The most important thing for us is to get Pat settled back in and comfortable," Wannstedt said. "If and when he shows up, we'll cross that bridge and go from there."
