HARMONY — A shoe drive is being held until July 22 at Harmony-Zelienople United Methodist Church to collect shoes for residents of Latvia.

Kelsey Shever of Ellwood City, a church member who will travel to Latvia for mission work in November, is requesting donations of new shoes and monetary donations. Checks can be made payable to "Shoes for Orphan Souls."

Donors are welcome to include pictures or notes to be passed along to the shoe recipients.

Donations can be dropped off at the church, 538 Main St., from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays.

Mental health group plans presentation

The local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness will host a presentation on "The Family Role in Recovery" at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Mental Health Association 140 N. Elm St.

The program, which is open to the public, will feature psychiatric rehabilitation specialists Amanda Szurek and Angie Henry, who will talk about the importance of family involvement and support for people recovering from a mental illness.

A family support group will follow the presentation. The NAMI support group meets at 7 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month in the Mental Health Association's board room.
