Sue Allen of Valencia, assessment consultant and professor of speech for the Community College of Beaver County, recently received the International Service Learning Collaboration Award from the Community College National Center for Community Engagement during the 16th National Conference in Arizona.Since 2001, Allen and co-instructor Anna Verhoye, from Dakota County Technical College in Minnesota, have pioneered a program entitled "Learning through Service: A Collaboration Effort between the People of Two Cultures."Each year, Allen and Verhoye take four to five groups of students from various educational institutions in the United States overseas to Guatemala.
