Auxiliaries earn awards from BMH
The Butler Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Junior Auxiliary were honored by the hospital during a May luncheon for donating 26,000 hours of service to the hospital this past year. Comprised of 388 women, men and young adults, the groups were saluted during the annual recognition luncheon at the Butler County Club on May 4. Volunteer of the Year award winners were also announced.Receiving the 2007 award for Auxilian of the Year was
Bertha Salony of Butler. The award for Candystriper of the Year was presented to
Shannon Hemphill of Lyndora.Salony joined the auxiliary in 1997. She has served on many committees with the auxiliary and volunteers her time at the Cherry Tree where she also works as one of the candy buyers. She currently serves as editor of the auxiliary newsletter and keeps track of volunteer hours. She is the group's current vice president.
Hemphill, daughter of Marlene Hays of Lyndora, has been a candystriper since June 2003. She is a recent graduate of Butler High School and plans to attend Gannon University for a physician's assistant program. She has worked more than 745 hours in the past four years in many departments at the hospital.Those interested in joining the auxiliary or candystripers can contact Kim Reamer, Director of Volunteer Services at 724-284-4342.———<B>Alyssa Cook</B>, daughter of Mitch and Terry Cook of Ford City, has been selected to sing with the Sound of America Honor Band and Chorus.She is a member of the Blazing Star Choral Society in Butler and has performed with the Ford City Junior and Senior High School Choruses.Arecent Ford City High School graduate, she also played flute and piccolo with the Ford City Concert and Marching Bands and is a member of the Armstrong County Community Band.Cook will participate in the Sound of America's summer tour through Europe, beginning in July.
