Will Nesbitt of Center Township, a seventh-grader at Butler Junior High, recently competed in a national tennis tournament in Columbus, Ohio, for boys ages 12 and under.
Nesbitt won four of his six matches and is ranked seventh among seventh grade players in Pennsylvania. He is ranked No. 187 in the nation.
Several area high school softball and baseball teams will be in action this week. They include:<B>Softball</B>• Seneca Valley will face Latrobe in the WPIAL Quad A championship game at 7 p.m. Thursday at California (Pa.) University.• Moniteau and Karns City will battle each other for the District 9 Class AA title at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Keystone High School.• Mars looks to extend its 2007 season when it takes on Hampton in the WPIAL Class AAA consolation game at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Fairhaven Park.<B>Baseball</B>• Grove City will meet Hickory in the District 10 Class AAA title game at 7 p.m. Monday at Slippery Rock University's Critchfield Park.• Seneca Valley will play Plum in the WPIAL Quad A consolation game at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Shaler High School.
Slippery Rock University sophomore Jennifer Hansen claimed the second all-America honor of her collegiate career Friday, finishing second in the pole vault at the NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships.Hansen tied her school record of 12 feet, 9Z\x inches. Jennifer Hensel of Minnesota State-Moorhead reached the same height, but won the event because of fewer misses.
